Max Foundation has worked in Nepal since 2016. In 2025 we brought our Healthy Village model to Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality for the first time, a four-year programme to reduce child stunting and build systems local government can sustain.

Over one in three children in Nepal are stunted, significantly higher than the worldwide average of around 21%. Poverty and child mortality are high, and many families lack access to basic services such as clean water and sanitation.

Building local systems

for child nutrition in Nepal

Earlier this year, Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality in Nepal's Dhading district was declared the country's first Model Clean and Hygienic Rural Municipality. What has happened since matters more than the title: the municipality has spent the months following it building the systems that make the recognition mean something — an endorsed guideline, a growth card in families' hands, equipped health posts, a named focal person, and a line in its own budget.

Healthy Village

Max Foundation is running a 4-year health programme in rural Nepal, targeting 19,200 people across 5,400 households. It aims to reduce child stunting from 35% to 25% by 2029 through nutrition, WASH, and community-led health initiatives.
