New Course Launched WASH and the Nutrition Nexus

We are excited to announce the launch of a new free online course, WASH and Nutrition Nexus: The Basics, developed with IRC’s WASH Systems Academy and a consortium of dedicated organisations.*

The course addresses a critical gap in development programming where water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and nutrition interventions often operate in isolation, despite overwhelming evidence of their interconnected impact on child health and community wellbeing. By focusing on integration, the course aims to help practitioners, programme managers, and policymakers create more effective, sustainable interventions that address both immediate needs and underlying causes of undernutrition.

Integrating for Impact

At Max Foundation, our approach centres on the understanding that sustainable, long-term health improvements require integrated solutions. Children cannot thrive with clean water alone, nor with good nutrition in isolation. This course reflects our commitment to breaking down sectoral silos and creating programming that recognises the fundamental connections between WASH and nutrition.

The course also aligns with our commitment to system strengthening and government collaboration. In Ethiopia, where Max Foundation works closely with government partners through initiatives like the Seqota Declaration, integrated approaches have demonstrated significant potential for addressing child stunting at scale. The course captures these lessons and makes them accessible to practitioners working in diverse contexts.
