Our focus

Food and Nutrition

Ensuring lasting access to nutritious food through evidence-driven solutions.

We take a holistic, evidence-driven approach to ensure that families have lasting access to nutritious food, clean water and essential health services.

Poor nutrition in early childhood leads to lifelong challenges – weakened immunity, stunted growth and limited learning potential. Poor nutrition isn’t just about food shortages; it’s also about food quality, affordability and education.

Key barriers include:
Climate Change: Unpredictable weather and declining agricultural productivity threaten food security.
Conflict & Instability: Disruptions in food supply chains lead to shortages and soaring prices.
Food Production & Nutrition Education: Limited farming yields and lack of awareness worsen malnutrition.
Poverty & Gender Inequality: When food is scarce, women and children often eat last, deepening nutritional gaps.

These challenges demand sustainable, community-driven solutions that ensure long-term food security and child health.

Our Approach

We address food and nutrition security by combining our core approaches in order to build resilient food systems, strengthen communities and scale solutions that work.

Evidence for Scale
We test, adapt, and scale what works using data and learning. For instance, we piloted locally produced porridge flour made from legumes and cereals which has now scaled up after proven success.
Integrated Approach

Child health cannot be improved in isolation. That’s why we take an integrated approach, combining nutrition with water, sanitation, and maternal care. We promote climate-resilient crops and pair healthy diet messaging with handwashing and food safety.
Strengthening Systems
We focus on building strong, locally led systems that can sustain and scale nutrition programmes. We train health workers to measure children’s nutrition and link schools with agricultural services to grow vegetable gardens and teach improved farming.
Market Systems
Strong local markets are essential for ensuring consistent access to nutritious food. We train nutrition sales agents to sell healthy snacks and support saving and loan groups to invest in better diets together.

Through innovation, partnerships, and advocacy, we are committed to scaling our impact while working alongside communities, governments, entrepreneurs and partners to create long term change. By taking a holistic, integrated approach to food and nutrition security, we’re not just addressing immediate needs, we’re creating stronger systems which ensure children thrive today and for generations to come.

Growing out of stunting, step by step

Jibon's story Read article

Jibon is the youngest of three brothers living in the north-east of Bangladesh. His mother has her hands full running the household and looking after her children. Jibon’s father leaves the house early in the morning to seek work. As a day laborer, he has a hard time providing for his family. When his parents found out Jibon was severely stunted during a growth monitoring session, they realized they had to improve their baby’s health.

Together with other family members, they improved their hygiene habits to help Jibon grow healthy.

His mother attended courtyard sessions of the community health promoter. There she learned about good sanitation, hygiene and nutrition habits. Jibon loves to eat foods like eggs, milk, and khichuri, which have high nutritional value. Jibon’s health is gradually improving, from severely to moderately stunted, and on the right track.

Jibon’s parents saved money to build a latrine. Later on, the family invested in a handwashing device and soap. These healthy practices improved the well-being of the whole family.
